About the Business
In 1970 Keith James Russell and Ian Clifford Garbutt had a business idea of importing specialist North American Indian moccasins to the UK market. The idea proved to be a good one and putting together the two middle names of the two partners Clifford James was born. The footwear was extremely comfortable and it became clear that British public needed comfortable footwear at value for money prices. The business started to gain a very good reputation and by 1987 sales grew to a then record 130,000 pairs generated from a small 8 page catalogue.
It was clear that the formula of quality, value and good customer service was a winning one. Clifford James operates from a modern 150,000 Sq.ft warehouse and office complex in Skelmersdale, employs over 120 people and has a database of 800,000 loyal, satisfied customers. Clifford James was acquired by BVG Airflo Group in 2005 and today forms part of one of the largest groups of independent specialist catalogues in the country.
