About the Business
In the 1950's a new era of music, attitude and clothing jolted the American mainstream - rock 'n' roll, varsity jackets, baseball and rockabilly liberated a great mass appeal. Rock 'n' roll grew on from the time of rural blues and urban rhythm and blues. There are two main lines for this decade - for ladies, the cinched or wasp waist with beautiful and colourful full skirts with meters of underlay tulle and on the opposite, the sleek and appealing pencil skirt we still wear today often paired with a peplum top or loose blouse tucked in at the waist.
Both are iconic looks that prevailed until around 1956 and can be described as fabulously sexy or fun and flirty! Fortunately we can still wear both of these skirt styles today for some 1950's rockabilly inspiration! The beauty of this era is that there is a style that will suit most body shapes, and pleasingly, the more womanly the better.
