About the Business
Meeks shoes was established in 1901 by my great grandfather Edward Meeks. He ran away from home at the age of 16 with just a shilling in his pocket and boarded a train to Ashton-under-Lyne. Edward managed to get a job as a sales assistant in a shoe shop, in Ashton, and eventually saved enough money to start his own shop, shown below. He became very involved in the local community and was awarded Alderman of the town. Today the business is run by myself John, and my sister, the 4th generation of the Meeks family.
I took over the business from my father in 1998 and in 2004 we acquired another long standing family business, Salter's shoes, in Oldham. We now have 5 stores in Ashton-under-Lyne, Stockport, Sale, OIdham and Alderley Edge. I hope that you can feel that you can trust us as a family business and if there is anything that we can help you with please do contact me directly and I will be happy to help. We bought the shop in Oldham from Graham Salter in 2004.
